The Legacy is a 72-story building containing 360 units, and boasts views of Millennium Park, the Chicago skyline, and Lake Michigan. The building was completed in fall 2009. The lower floors of the building provide classroom space for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
The building offers optional indoor private parking (460 spaces are available) and boasts a storage locker for each residence, 24-hour doorman, valet/dry-cleaning and package-holding services through the receiving room, and on-site management office. The Legacy has four high-speed passenger elevators, plus a dedicated freight elevator.
There are three different groups of apartments, but for the most part they offer the same finishes and luxuries. Kitchens include natural wood cabinets (in maple, oak, or cherry), under-cabinet lighting, granite countertops, and state of the art appliances including Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer units, gas ranges, convection ovens, dishwashers, and garbage-disposal units. Laundry hookups are available in-unit.
Living/dining areas and kitchens have hardwood floors, and the developer indicates that there are ample electrical and telecommunications outlets. The residences have nine-foot ceilings (even higher in some cases) and panoramic insulated windows. Many units have individual terraces. Bedrooms offer a choice of plush or Berber-style carpet, while the master bath includes recessed lighting, a six-foot soaking tub (some units offer whirlpool tubs), and in some units, a separate glass-door shower stall. A few units offer an optional fireplace. Each unit has individually controlled heating and cooling.
Other building amenities include the heated indoor lap pool, whirlpool spa, sundeck and landscaped outdoor garden terrace, pro-equipped fitness center, and outdoor sky garden lounges. Some amenities of the adjacent University Club (connected to The Legacy by a sky bridge) are available to residents, including hospitality room catering services, guest rooms, and squash court privileges.
